Homemade Recipe for your Fur Babies

In my family's effort to remain, healthy, energetic and eat delicious foods, we have discovered through trial and error that our sweet furry babies can no longer tolerate processed foods. One of our furry babies spent Easter weekend 2016 in the animal hospital. It was life-changing for our family.

We found over the course of two months, several food brand changes and food prescriptions that the only food which will not induce vomiting is a homemade food blend. We mix the homemade blend with a little bit of Rachel Ray's hard dog food (for vitamins and nutrients). By the end of  the day each furry baby has eaten about 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food.

We do feed them smaller amounts twice a day instead of once a day feeding, otherwise they will over eat and throw up their food. Once one of them throws up a food, they will both no longer eat any food for two-three days.

Health-a-licious Homemade Recipe for your Furry Friends

Ingredients
3 lbs Ground Turkey (With rosemary extract or without. No vinegar.)
2 cups of dry White Rice (Prepared.)
3 cups Peas (Cut up in food processor.)
3 cups Carrots (Shredded.)

Directions
Mix ingredients in a large bowl. (You can add your own Rosemary Extract. Rosemary is good for their immune system. We are currently looking for a vitamin drop that we can mix in this recipe as well.) Separate homemade recipe into containers with 2 days worth of food. Put one container in the fridge and the rest in the freezer. Should last about 7 days.

I hope this recipe works for you as well as it has worked for us.

Update: March 2020
Our fur babies passed away late last year. I can honestly say that the big joy in their lives in their last days was still our homemade food.

Have a Happy Health-a-licious Day!

Ketogenic diet

In my search for Health-a-licious foods, (delicious foods that lead to good health). I often have conversations that lead to interesting new ideas and theories. I have recently given up caffeine...again...to see if that makes a difference in my racing heart rate (could just be that my thyroid effects it)...So to get to the point,  I was sitting in a Starbucks drinking my caffeine-free, sugar-free tea and eating my fat filled, gluten-filled, teeny-tiny breakfast sandwich. The conversation lead to health and food. My friend brought up a Ketogenic diet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketogenic_diet It is an amazing theory based on science and things we have heard before with the Atkins diet or the South Beach diet, but with a twist. It is high fat, low protein, low carbohydrate. The theory being that it  helps people who suffer from seizures to not suffer from seizures. I wish I would have know this last week. (My sister's beloved family pet just passed away from health issue...

Make Ahead & Freeze Gluten Free Recipes.

After 8 months of gluten free eating my husband is on board to cook gluten free meals for me. He is an amazing cook. He is creative, follows the recipe and adds his own flair to make the recipe all his own. He even came in 2nd at a huge chili cook off at our church. He has created two new home recipes for me. Both are make ahead recipes. Both are freezable. In our household we like to cook twice a week. Enough to be evening staple meals for two or three days. With only two of us it makes it easier than most families of 4 or more. With these new freezable recipes we have been trying, we can cook on Sunday and have meals for a month if we choose. These recipes can stay in the freezer for up to 3 months. Pizza Tot Casserole 1 1/2lbs ground beef                                     ...

Digestion being Gluten-FreeFollow my blog with Bloglovin

Since the first day I started gluten-free. I have notice my food is digesting immediately. My system is also making much more noise. LOL. I am a little afraid to eat in public. I thought maybe it was just because I was eating so many grapes. I have found it is after every meal for about a half hour. The neat thing about this immediate digestion is that my stomach area is not bloated all day like it used to be. I do notice tummy bloat if I eat just a little bit of gluten on accident. For example, you would think beef jerky would be gluten free. apparently not. I ate a little. It tasted delicious. I didn't realize it had any gluten. The next morning I woke up with a funny taste in my mouth and a bloated tummy all day long. I didn't put two and two together until I read the back of the beef jerky packaging. Warning: Contains wheat and soy. My PA (Physician's Assistant) says my headaches will often get worse with major nausea. I am hoping the gluten free...
