Food Elimination Suggestions for an Efficient Body with Daily Thyroid Medications

Almost 2 years ago to the day I started writing this blog. I discovered that eating wheat flour-free made a difference in how my body felt in just one day. Over the last two years I have found many foods that my body does not agree with through the elimination diet and food experiments.

Health-a-licious Personal Diet Discoveries
You know your body best. Listen to what it is telling you. Keep searching for your answer, even if a doctor says they can not help you and you should be on disability. Go with your gut. Don't listen to others who don't know your journey.

When you don't have a thyroid, your thyroid medications will work better if you eliminate certain foods from your diet. For me it has been eliminating the following foods or ingredients:
Gluten                 Corn Syrup                                Soy
Milk                    Almonds                                   Peanuts and peanut butter
Ginger                 Mango                                      Peaches
Nitrates                Aged Cheese                            Any produce that is  too ripe (Tyramine)
Sweetner              Smoked meat                           Green Tea
Yeast Extract       Aged meat (including beef jerky)
Wine                    Beer

The last six months have been the first time since cancer that I have felt a little normal. My memory is coming back in full force. I am up and moving around almost daily. I still have migraine headache days that would kill an elephant, but less days in bed. No emergency room visits since February 2015. I truly believe this major improvement is due to eliminating the above foods from my diet.

I promise you that your elimination diet journey will be difficult. It is a major lifestyle change for you and those around you. I also promise you that you will discover amazing things about yourself and may make major improvements in your life. Isn't that what life is all about? Self discoveries that we can pass on to others and make a difference in this world. Even if it is just to one person that reads this blog and I have made a difference, then my heart is full. My prayer for you  is more energy and less pain in your life today. My prayer for you is to feel joy.

Below is a link to an article I found about the correlation between food and the effectiveness of thyroid medications.  Every endocrinologist should give this article to their patients who have a chronic thyroid condition. Remember doctors: Treat the person, not just the symptoms.

This blog is especially dedicated to my friends with chronic health conditions who are always fighting the good fight, fighting to find normalcy in their day and fighting against pain.

Have a Happy Healthy Day.

Make Ahead & Freeze Gluten Free Recipes.

After 8 months of gluten free eating my husband is on board to cook gluten free meals for me. He is an amazing cook. He is creative, follows the recipe and adds his own flair to make the recipe all his own. He even came in 2nd at a huge chili cook off at our church. He has created two new home recipes for me. Both are make ahead recipes. Both are freezable. In our household we like to cook twice a week. Enough to be evening staple meals for two or three days. With only two of us it makes it easier than most families of 4 or more. With these new freezable recipes we have been trying, we can cook on Sunday and have meals for a month if we choose. These recipes can stay in the freezer for up to 3 months. Pizza Tot Casserole 1 1/2lbs ground beef                                     ...

Everyday Eating & Mardi Gras

The beauty of eating gluten free is that it is simple. It takes you to core eating. Healthy foods. The difficulty is finding delicious healthy foods. Here are some of my everyday staples. Mind you, I love vegetables. Fresh vegetables are my favorite. Flash frozen are a far second. For a quick fun snack or even meal. Fresh green beans and Bella mushrooms. Microwave in a covered dish for 2-3 minutes to steam.   For fun and food variety each month, my hubby and I like to follow themes with the seasons. This year we had home cooked New Orleans cuisine on Mardi Gras Tuesday. A great tasting gluten free sausage was our mission. We found one we love, Aidelles Cajun Andouille Sausage. Be ready, it is spicy. It is everything you are looking for in a sausage. Gluten Free, no MSG, no Nitrates, no added Hormones, no artificial ingredients. Whoo! Almost like making your own sausage. We tried Zaterain's Jambalaya mix last year. We tried Zatarain's Dirty Rice thi...
